The Knights Templar School, a large secondary school based in Baldock, Hertfordshire, had recently been awarded £1.3m from the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund to build a new 6th Form Study Centre. The building opened for student use at the start of the 2013 term, providing a significant upgrade to the school’s facilities for 6th form students. This building incorporates two ICT study rooms, four large classrooms, three seminar classrooms, a meeting room, four offices and a kitchen, all of which required a range of furniture to be installed. The school’s Business Manager approached Premier Workplace Services Sustain division to see what assistance could be provided through The Giving Back Project.
Premier’s Sustain division had already worked with Knights Templar, providing previous furniture donations and the Management Team had also previously provided a talk on business issues for the AS level Business Management pupils. Premier were delighted to support the school again and build on this earlier assistance.
The school provided Premier’s Sustain division with a wish list of items needed for the new study centre. The Giving Back Project team reviewed both the existing stock of donated furniture and audited items that were due to be sustainably cleared, to see what support could be provided.
The Giving Back Project has now delivered over 600 items of furniture and equipment to the school including; operator chairs, storage units, office desks, classroom tables as well as conference tables and chairs.
The donation of furniture made through The Giving Back Project and Premier’s Sustain divisions’ clients has saved the school thousands of pounds in furnishing costs.
“The excellent quality and appearance of the furniture supplied means that a brand new state-of-the-art 6th Form Study Centre has been appropriately furnished and has created a superb facility for our students. The school is truly grateful for this very generous donation. It was important for the school to provide a top class building with state-of-the-art ICT facilities and good quality furniture. Premier Sustain’s contribution in achieving this objective has been significant and we value very highly the excellent service they have provided to the school and the strong relationship that has developed. Thank you!"
