The UK’s foremost sustainability awards, dubbed ‘The Green Oscars’ has announced that Premier’s partnership with the Met Police has been shortlisted for an award in the Innovative Spaces category.
The Sustainable City Awards were set up in 2001 to recognise and reward best practice in environmental management and sustainable leadership. Entries to the awards come from all types of enterprises from charities and SMEs to multi-national banks and corporations.
To apply for the Innovative Spaces category, entrants were required to have: ‘mitigated the effects of activities on climate change, or adapted operations to reflect the impact of climate change’. They will have used ‘best practice to conserve resources in buildings and business’.
Premier’s partnership with the MPS reflects these aims, ‘making reuse business as usual’ with the MPS teams via the use of the Swap Shop as well as supporting the MPS in facilitating cultural change during the period of dramatic rationalisation across the estate. By combining Premier’s technology expertise and our innovative and award-winning Renew Centre, the MPS saved £600M in the year up to 2016, with the Swap Shop seeing over 3000 items of furniture (over 90 tonnes) being reused in the last 12 months. Carbon equivalent savings of 3,544 tonnes have been achieved through this reuse – equivalent to the CO2(e) emitted by filling up nearly 14,500 Route Master Buses. Full details of this case study can be seen here.
Representatives from Premier Sustain and the Metropolitan Police Service will attend the awards ceremony which takes place at The Crystal in Victoria Docks on Wednesday 5th July.
