Premier Sustain has marked the launch of a new sustainable service for redundant IT and electrical items with a donation of eight computers to homeless charity, St Mungo’s.
The new service enables clients to manage redundant IT and electrical items securely, sustainably and compliantly. ‘Renew IT’ puts security at the heart of the service with secure onsite and offsite data wiping to the highest security standards and destruction of data bearing devices where confidentially requires it. At the same time, in line with Premier Sustain’s other services, Renew IT is designed around the waste hierarchy to maximise the financial, environmental and social value of clients’ redundant IT and electrical equipment.
Premier has set up testing, reconfiguration and repair services at our award winning remanufacturing and reuse facility, the Renew Centre. Through a well-established network of resale partners and existing donation initiative, the Giving Back Project, Premier is able to offer resale and donation of redundant items whilst minimising any risks and ensuring clients meet their legal requirements. As part of the Renew IT service, clients receive a comprehensive audit trail demonstrating security and compliance, and a savings report demonstrating project savings from reuse, resale and rebates, donations and charities supported, and the carbon savings achieved by using the services.
The eight computers have gone to St Mungo’s homeless advice and support service in Waltham Forest. Premier has a long standing relationship with St Mungo’s which provides a bed and support to more than 2,600 people a night who are either homeless or at risk, and work to prevent homelessness. The donated PCs all come with 19” monitors, keyboards, mice and power leads and are pre-loaded with software including Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Business, anti-virus applications and other useful software tools. They will be used to ensure individuals moving into independent accommodation have access to IT within their home.

We are committed to every individual’s sustainable recovery and this donation will support our clients to rebuild their lives after a period of homelessness. Vital tasks are conducted online, whether this is job searching, banking, GP appointments or even socialising. Ensuring our clients have access to computing, particularly when they move into independent accommodation, is key.”

Renew IT was developed with support from REBus, an EU funded project delivered by WRAP and other partners to help SMEs transform to resource efficient business models.
The launch took place on World FM Day alongside Premier‘s quarterly Renew Centre open day which enables clients to see the company’s remanufacturing and reuse capabilities in operation.
