Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) has contracted Premier Workplace Services to provide day-to-day moves and changes for the airport and airlines for over 10 years. This longstanding service provision budgets for Premier’s security-cleared staff and vehicles to respond to ad hoc requirements, with extra resources managed according to HAL budgets and provided by Premier’s wider team.
Supporting business-as-usual operations
Security-cleared Premier staff are responsible for moving people, office equipment and furniture, stores and specialist equipment as well as the delivery of items for special events or projects such as seasonal installations, building and interiors refurbishments.
With access to landside and airside, Premier is also able to facilitate deliveries on behalf of other contractors within the airport.
Premier Workplace Services’ personnel employed on the HAL contract are security cleared at the highest level: personal background and counter terrorism checks are required, with Premier’s security cleared staff granted access to all areas of the airport.
In addition to relocation and moves services, Premier also supports events or special requirements across the airport and provides storage for airport clients. The contract also permits other contractors to use Premier’s team to facilitate deliveries into the restricted airside zones.
The Queen’s Terminal Project
At the start of this project Premier was responsible the relocation of all the facilities and operations to different holding areas across the airport site and the sustainable clearance of the existing Terminal 2. This area of Heathrow was then rebuilt and renamed The Queen’s Terminal.
HAL needed confidence that the Queen’s Terminal would be operational on time, with no margin for error. The Premier team worked closely with their HAL counterparts to identify the project requirements and managed the project from the outset.
The project was carried out over six months by Premier’s security-cleared teams. In order to avoid any disruption to the business, all the work took place between 10.00pm and 4.00am. This ensured that business critical operations were in place each day and minimised the risk of any errors. Attention to detail was paramount to ensure every element was fulfilled at the precise time.
Once work on the Queen’s Terminal was complete, the airport and airline’s equipment and resources - stored at various holding points across the site - had to be moved back to the new building. In addition, Premier’s team oversaw deliveries of new furniture and ensured all work was carried out without disruption to Heathrow flight schedules or critical day-to-day operations.
